Overview: This two day course will cover the following: Upper GI; HPB; Colorectal emergencies; Abdominal wall reconstruction in emergency patient; Endoscopy related to Upper GI Bleeding and control of haemorrhage. Delivered through small group course based learning and discussion. Practical skill sessions with the aid of experienced and enthusiastic faculty. Cadaveric workshops demonstrated and practised in a state of the art, operating teaching facility. This course is aimed at ST5 and above, through to consultant level.

Target Audience: ST5 and above, through to Consultant level.

Learning Style: Small group course based learning and discussion. Practical skill sessions with the aid of experienced and enthusiastic faculty. Cadaveric workshops demonstrated and practised in a state of the art, operating teaching facility.

Aims & Objectives: The course aims to: 1) Identify areas of uncertainty and vulnerability as a consultant in the treatment of Emergency General Surgical Patients; 2) Improve judgement and decision making in situations where a clinician may have limited experience; 3) Enable a clinician to develop a mechanism and strategy for dealing with difficult operative situations and pathology; 4)Improve practical skills and add techniques 'get you out of trouble'; 5) Improve critical thinking and strategies in relation to FRCS examination.

Learning Outcomes: On completion of the course, you should be able to: 1) Describe possible solutions to a range of difficult technical problems in emergency surgery; 2) Demonstrate a number of appropriate techniques to deal with emergency surgical problems; 3) Make an accurate assessment of a complex clinical scenario and justify a chosen course of action.
