This exciting new programme is the only MS programme of its kind in the world. Students on the programme will:

  • Learn advanced practical skills in minimally-invasive surgery: students will have the opportunity to improve their laparoscopic and robotic skills.
  • Be amongst the first postgraduate students, across the globe, to directly interact with surgeons around the world, learning operative skills as well as observing the latest procedures.
  • Learn about and develop Virtual and Augmented Reality models at the cutting edge of surgery.
  • Be the only group of students who are specifically taught on the use of SoMe in surgery by some of the pioneers of this movement.
  • Be taught by academic surgeons who are experts in their field and recognised as thought leaders in surgery, including Module Leads: Mr Manish Chand, Professor Steve Wexner, Professor Antonio Lacy, Mr Richard Brady, Professor Mariana Berho, Dr Venkatesh Munikrishnan, Mr Jim Khan and Mr Richard Cohen.

Degree Information

This MS programme is focussed, practical-based, highly innovative and hands-on mixing the cutting edge of VR and SoMe with advanced practical training and telementoring in robotics and laparoscopy from some of the world’s most renowned expert surgeons. This degree incorporates latest technologies that will place students at the forefront of modern surgical training.

  • Research Methodology
  • mHealth applications

Research project – Dissertation (joining existing research tracks with a view to on-going collaboration, presentation, and peer-reviewed publication).

The University has highly advanced simulation facilities for surgical training as well as excellent collaborative links with other similarly progressive units throughout the surgical community. The technology integrated into this programme will allow students to be mentored and assessed by surgeons in Europe and the USA whilst being based at the Bloomsbury Campus, using state-of-the-art telestration equipment. The module structure will also allow students to directly work with experienced academics and develop projects that will be clinically applicable to their future careers. The international, multidisciplinary faculty will allow students to directly engage with some of the key opinion leaders in surgery and tailor their practice to be at the forefront of modern surgery.

Who will benefit from this programme?

  • Postgraduate students who hold a recognized medical degree and have undergone basic surgical training or equivalent in a surgical specialty eg MRCS or MRCOG.
  • A PGCert is available for students who hold a medical degree but are yet to complete basic surgical training – this is on completion of the Core Modules.
