Cardiff MRCS(ENT)/DOHNS Course: Preparatory Course for MRCS(ENT)/DOHNS OSCE Exam

Provided by

About the course

This one-day intensive preparatory course will help the delegate gain a sound understanding of the structure and format of the MRCS(ENT)/DOHNS OSCE exam, and provide him/her with an insight into the key topics and areas on which to focus for the exam. Aside from covering common ENT conditions and pathologies, the course will cover high-yield, but challenging, areas such as anatomy of the skull base, anatomy of the neck, anatomy of the face, and pharyngeal arches and embryology. Important benign and malignant conditions in the head and neck region, thyroid pathologies, common conditions of the ear including deafness, cleft lip and palate, tonsillectomy and facial nerve palsy will also be covered.

Approximately 12-15 patient-centered clinical scenarios will be used to reflect the situations experienced in everyday ENT clinical practice; these scenarios will be in line with the topics commonly tested in the MRCS(ENT)/DOHNS OSCE exam. There will be opportunities for every delegate to participate and engage in a number of role-play scenarios, enabling him/her to identify areas of weakness and areas upon which he/she can improve.

The course will conclude with a mock OSCE which will allow the delegate to gain an understanding of the type of stations tested in the real exam, to recognise how to prepare and overcome the time-constraints in the unmanned stations, and to appreciate the approach required to handle the manned stations. This course is particularly relevant for those who have completed a limited amount of prior revision and who find the basic sciences component challenging, but who intend to revise for six weeks before the exam.
