About the course

The RCPCH and Asthma UK have worked together to develop this new educational programme to explore how healthcare professionals can work together to improve the diagnosis, treatment and management of children and young people with asthma. The importance of the management of this condition has been recently highlighted in the NRAD report and Why Children Die report.

Workshops will explore tools and techniques which healthcare professionals can use in practice and lectures and debates will explore diagnosis, treatment options, asthma management as well as establishing and utilising Children’s Asthma networks and championing change locally.

By the end of the day delegates will:
  • Understand the key components in the management of asthma including diagnosis and monitoring
  • Understand the role of the asthma action plan in the management of asthma in children and young people
  • Understand the importance of adherence to asthma treatments and gain an understanding of how to address this issue
  • Know how to use and when to prescribe some of the newer inhalers now available
  • Understand the role that those involved in a child’s health and wellbeing (including parents, schools, pharmacists, community, primary and secondary care) can play in an integrated care model of asthma
  • Improved confidence in acting as an Asthma Champion within hospital or community
