About the course

This course has been developed by Dr Adam Hill, Secretary of the Respiratory Certificate Examination Board & Dr Ian Forrest, Consultant Respiratory Physician, Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne.

It has been developed specifically for Specialist Trainees in Respiratory Medicine preparing to take their SCE. A pass in the SCE is essential for obtaining the CCT in Respiratory Medicine.

It will provide an entire day devoted to removing some of the myths surrounding the exam and giving clear guidance for delegates about how to maximise their potential in the exam and how to go about preparing for it.

There will an explanation about how the questions are written and chosen, how the pass rate is decided, the blueprint of the exam and the outcomes. Delegates will also be provided with valuable hints and tips on how to prepare for the exam.

It takes place the day before the BTS Summer Meeting, in York. Elements of the programme for the Summer Meeting have been structured to provide additional support for those preparing for the SCE (for example, a mini-short course on respiratory physiology is included in the programme for 2016).

There will also be a ‘mock examination’ which will include a series of 40 genuine and plausible questions with ample time for discussion with faculty members.

Each session will include practise questions to provide delegates with a true reflection of what to expect in the SCE.
