About the course

Our two-year online MSc in Orthopaedic Trauma Science provides a broad and critical understanding of the most up-to-date science and practice of trauma care, with a particular focus on orthopaedic and orthoplastic management. The programme is accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons of England and is delivered in collaboration between London's most established major trauma centre at the Royal London Hospital, the UK's lead centre for research into Complex Trauma Care and one of the oldest medical schools in the world.

Trauma is one of the world's leading killers and is responsible for a significant proportion of the global burden of disease. Improving survival and outcomes following traumatic injury has been identified as a key priority by the World Health Organization and orthopaedic injuries pose a major clinical challenge worldwide.

Teaching

We use innovative methods of teaching and assessment for a fresh, dynamic and interactive approach in orthopaedic trauma. It is designed to be readily accessible, wherever you are in the world. We combine an international expert faculty with technology-enhanced learning, interactive discussion forums and tutorials help to engender an inclusive and supportive community, as well as facilitating a worldwide network of contacts with shared interests.

At the end of the first year, you also have the option to attend a two-week residential summer school in London – one of the most, vibrant, dynamic and exciting cities in the world.

In the final year, your will undertake a dissertation project on a topic within the science and practice of trauma care within your specialism and career aspirations. You will be supervised and receive guidance. Through the dissertation, you will synthesise various aspects of the knowledge you will have obtained through the degree and demonstrate your ability to conduct and present high quality original research.

Entry requirements

A 2:2 or above at undergraduate level in Nursing, Physiotherapy or a Medical degree (non-UK medical degrees marked on a grading scale must be equivalent to a UK 2:2 degree).

Professional clinical experience in managing patients with traumatic injury is desirable.

Applicants with Nursing, Physiotherapy, or Medical degrees below this level will be considered on an individual basis if there is strong evidence of suitable professional experience.
