About the course
This BTS one day course on Occupational & Environmental Lung Disease is organised by Dr Chris Barber, Centre for Workplace Health, Sheffield and Professor Paul Cullinan, National Heart and Lung Institute, London.
The course will be delivered by a faculty of experts and is aimed at newly qualified consultants, trainees and other healthcare professionals with an interest in Respiratory Medicine.
The principal learning objectives of the course will be:
- To be aware of the causes and pathophysiology of acute and chronic occupational and environmental lung diseases
- To be competent in taking a detailed history of possible environmental and occupational exposures
- To be aware of how occupational and environmental lung diseases are investigated, including interpretation of lung function testing and the role of challenge testing
- To understand the management principals in occupational and environmental lung disease, particularly the importance of early diagnosis and exposure avoidance where appropriate
- To understand the curricular requirements for occupational and environmental lung disease, and test knowledge for the Specialist Trainee exit exam with 'mock' exam questions
