About the Course

This two-day course is accredited by the North of England Approval Panel (NEAP) and is valid for those attending from other parts of England. It is designed to deliver the necessary training to those who are able to demonstrate the required competencies and wish to take up the role of Approved Clinician.

After you have attended this course, you will be able to…

  • Understand the main provisions of the Mental Health Act 1983 as amended
  • Understand more clearly the role and responsibilities of the Approved Clinician
  • Appreciate the roles of other key professionals
  • Develop a framework in which to consider clinical problems and dilemmas

Attendance at this course is only one part of the approval process for Approved Clinicians. Please contact your local panel for full criteria for approval, and how to apply. This course starts promptly at 9.30am and finishes at 4.45pm. You must attend the whole course to be entitled to a certificate of attendance which will be accepted as proof of completion of a Approved Clinician Induction course. Following a meeting of the Department of Health’s National Reference Group, held in March 2017, we are now only able to accept a maximum number of 30 delegates on this course.

Suitability

This course offers 12 CPD points and is suitable for Section 12 approved Psychiatrists wishing to become Approved Clinicians. To check your eligibility and the full criteria to attend this course, please contact with your local approval panel before booking to ensure this is the right course for you.

Testimonials

“The course being provided face-to-face was invaluable – thank you. The small group size and the presenters particularly provided an environment that made asking questions and exploring a few nuanced points easy.”

“The best part of the course was the discussion around case vignettes. Having personal access to the slides was also very helpful to make notes during the course. The speakers were engaging, and the venue had good food and drinks.”
