About the course

About the Course

Prescribing psychotropic medication remains a core intervention in the management of adults suffering from mental health conditions. There has been an ongoing evolution in the treatment of psychosis, affective disorders and other significant psychiatric morbidities. Over the last 35 years, a number of psychotropic agents have been introduced to the market and some of them have become the golden standard. Is the current data sufficient to support changes in our prescribing attitudes compared to well-established treatments? How prominent are these novel treatments particularly in our challenging times, where safety and cost-effectiveness matters?

Dr Nikolaos Fragkos, Consultant Psychiatrist at Crisis Resolution and Intensive Support Service at Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, will cover the most recent updates on prescribing psychotropics in general adult psychiatry focusing both on common and complex mental health conditions. Novel psychopharmacological treatments, prescribing guidance, supporting evidence and literature updates will be discussed in the session.

After attending this course, delegates will be able to:

  • Be updated of the current data related to novel and promising treatments in general adult psychiatry
  •  Gain further insight into the available psychopharmacological interventions and their potential implementations in day-to-day clinical practice
  • Familiarise with novel psychotropic agents including their mechanism of action, indications, and adverse effects

“Excellent and engaging speaker. He was very knowledgeable and paced the talks very well. Slides were relevant and very informative. Thanks!”

“The best parts were the clear presentation and the interactive part of discussion. Really positive to learn from clinicians in other clinical fields who had used different groups of mental health medications as indicated by their care settings.”
