Basic Surgical Cadaver Skills (BaSiCS)

About the course

Covering key areas of the Intercollegiate Surgical Curriculum Programme required for entry into specialty training. Candidates must have already completed a Basic Surgical Skills course.

Providing hands-on experience using fresh/frozen cadaveric material, this two-day course will cover:

  • Laparotomy
  • Laparoscopy
  • Laparoscopic/ open appendicectomy
  • Inguinal hernia repair
  • Small bowel resection/ anastomosis
  • Approach to the femoral artery
     

This course will take place at the Clinical Anatomy Skills Centre (CASC) at the University of Glasgow. CASC is a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide innovative and challenging education and training for physicians, surgeons, dentists and other allied health professionals. 

This course is run by Fiona Leitch.
