Considering a career as a healthcare professional? Turn your science knowledge into a career as a healthcare professional on UCL’s fast-track Orthoptics MSc (pre-registration) programme. Orthoptists, Allied Health Professionals in the NHS, are experts in the diagnosis and management of developmental eye conditions, defects in eye movement, and binocular vision.

  • Programme eligibility: This programme is open to applicants from any academic background
  • Placements: 1,000 hours of clinical placements in hospital settings
  • Funding support is available through the NHS Learning Support Fund (LSF) grant which does not need to be repaid. There is additional funding available to support parents, reimbursement for excess travel and accommodation costs associated with clinical placements, and an Exceptional Support Fund for students experiencing financial hardship.
A career in Orthoptics will allow you to shape your career around your specific interests. There are opportunities to pursue specialist clinical practice, research, management and leadership, and teaching.
 
The Orthoptics MSc is a two-year, fast-track, accelerated-learning programme that will equip you with the requisite knowledge and skills to practice as a registered Orthoptist. Upon completing your programme, you will be eligible to register with the HCPC. You will learn through face-to-face and online lectures, skills labs, workshops, small-group teaching and clinical placements in hospitals across the country.
