About the course
This course is part of the RCOG Core Knowledge series.
Pre-eclampsia is a multisystem disorder with clinical features that include hypertension, oedema and proteinuria. This tutorial will help you to learn more about the way in which pre-eclampsia can complicate pregnancy and how to assess and manage pregnant women who develop the condition.
This course should be studied in conjunction with the Pre-eclampsia course in the Antenatal Care module.
When you have completed this course you will be able to:
- describe the physiology of intrapartum complications in women with pre-eclampsia
- assess when a woman with pre-eclampsia requires delivery
- confidently devise a care plan for women with pre-eclampsia in labour and delivery in order to minimise risk
- manage an eclamptic seizure
- counsel a woman postnatally about the long-term effects of pre-eclampsia.
Kate Stewart (2016, 2019)
Kate Stewart MRCOG was appointed as a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Raigmore Hospital, Inverness in 2017 with special interests in labour ward practice, benign gynaecology and early pregnancy.
This course is intended to help clinicians gain core knowledge for O&G training and the MRCOG examinations. It can also be used by O&G consultants to refresh their knowledge of the area or for teaching.
