About the course

Welcome to the Non-technical Skills for Surgeons (NOTSS) resource.

Originally developed for use in surgery, NOTSS is a behavioural marker system. It has been adapted for use in O&G. It is a formative tool and can be used at any training level (ST1 – ST7) across a variety of clinical settings.

Non-technical skills are essential for good patient outcomes and patient safety. The NOTSS tool can be used in the workplace to provide feedback on non-technical skills.

The new RCOG curriculum emphasises the requirement for modern Consultants to have good non-technical skills. Use of the NOTSS tool can be used by trainees as evidence to support decisions about competence in 8 of the 14 Capabilities in Practice (CiPs).
