Radiology services: sustainability and optimisation

About the course

We are all aware of the challenges facing Radiology in the UK.  Demand for services continues to grow rapidly, while workforce and financial constraints limit the ability to meet the current and anticipated demand within traditional delivery models.

This study day will provide an overview of our current position, the expected impact on Radiology services of changes more widely in the NHS, and examples of how Radiology services can be adapted to meet these requirements.

It is, of course, crucial to maintain and improve the quality of the services we provide, an increasing challenge in the face of competing demands.  This central role of quality and peer learning  forms the basis of the second session.

The early afternoon session builds on the recently published  RCR  ‘Sustainable future for diagnostic radiology’ series of documents. These were developed to identify the scope of service delivery which is required, and to provide suggestions on how the gap might be bridged using the current workforce in a more flexible way.

The final session is an opportunity to hear about new models of delivery already in development and the use of IT to support both existing and future models.

We are fortunate to have secured high calibre speakers for this study day who bring experience and knowledge from across the spectrum of radiology and the wider NHS.  It will prove to be an interesting and informative  event applicable to all radiologists and radiographers, and we anticipate some stimulating debate on the day.
