About the course

The Royal College of Psychiatrists is continually looking for new question writers. This module is intended to provide instruction and guidance on the skills required for those interested in writing questions for MRCPsych Papers A and B, which comprise the written element of the MRCPsych examination.

  • Paper A tests the candidate's knowledge of the scientific and theoretical basis of psychiatry (Sections 1–5 of the syllabus).
  • Paper B tests the candidate's knowledge of critical review and clinical topics in psychiatry (Sections 6–14 of the syllabus).

Paper A and Paper B are each 3 hours in duration and comprise of 150 individual marks. In each paper, two thirds of the available marks are in the form of multiple choice questions (MCQs) and one third are in the form of extended matching items (EMIs).
