About the course

JOIN US IN BIRMINGHAM AT THE UK’S LARGEST OPHTHALMIC CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION

It is my great joy and privilege, on behalf of the Scientific Committee, to welcome you all to the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Annual Congress 2016. We are delighted to be returning to the International Convention Centre, Birmingham, a venue that will be very familiar to many of you.

The Scientific Committee are confident that the programme, a careful balance of education and research, will be of interest to clinicians and allied health professionals at all stages of their career. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the speakers for their contributions to the Congress.

The eponymous lectures honour the outstanding achievements of previous ophthalmologists and visual scientists, and recognise our links with the ophthalmic industry. We are delighted that equally eminent individuals, Professors Philip Luthert, John Dart, Jay Neitz, Maureen Neitz and Robert Osher, have agreed to deliver this year's lectures.

Last year's highly successful Congress was in no small part due to the organisational and leadership skills of George Hibdige, the College's Events Manager. He and his team have continued to improve the quality of the meeting. This year, the trade exhibition area will be fully open for the retina, glaucoma, and paediatric sub-specialty meetings on the Monday before the main Congress. This will greatly enhance the quality of the catering and reduce the congestion previously associated with these highly popular meetings.

A free Congress App, which will replace the large printed programme, has been developed with features including personalised agendas, live key pad voting, integrated social networking, floor maps, abstract and poster information, speaker profiles and much more. More details on the app can be found on The App tab.

This website contains details of eponymous lectures, speakers, symposia, courses, posters, DVDs, forums, commercial exhibition and social events which will also be supported and enhanced by the Congress App. For many of us, the College Congress is a great social as well as an educational event, providing us with the opportunity to catch up with friends and colleagues from UK and overseas.

I am looking forward to welcoming you all to Birmingham for what promises to be an exciting and innovative meeting. Mr Michael Burdon Chair, Scientific Committee, The Royal College of Ophthalmologists
