Systematic Training in Acute Illness Recognition and Treatment START
Provided by The Royal College of Surgeons of England, London
About the course
You will be faced with acutely unwell patients throughout your foundation training. This course provides you with a system of assessment for commencing appropriate initial patient management beyond the standard ‘ABCDE’. The programme offers an introduction to managing critically ill or potentially unwell patients on the wards or high dependency unit (HDU) while emphasising the pivotal role played by foundation doctors within their team.
This course has been developed by a working group of surgeons, anaesthetists, physicians, an intensive care nurse and a foundation trainee, ensuring the course is tailored to the curriculum needs of FY1 doctors.
An increasing number of foundation training programmes have integrated START into their foundation training, please contact your local TPD to check if START is included in your programme.
Course attendance and completion of the online feedback entitles you to a certificate that can be linked to your Horus e-portfolio.
